I am ashamed to ask but here I go.

My saliva is way too sticky. When I run I get a large build up up saliva in my mouth if it is cold (normal I guess...nothing serious), but it practically sticks to the inards of my mouth
which makes it really hard to spit it out.

It's like it is not watery enough..sometimes I can't spit it out and have to stop running or I choke because I can't breathe.

Any ideas?

I will reward everyone who refrains from making a deep throat or other sexual comment with a "+5 interesting"

Yellow.

But I drink a lot of water😕

That said, I swim an hour everyday...do I need to compensate with more water?

My GF is a nutritionist. Assuming you are healthy, a dry mouth is a clear sign of dehydration. If you are drinking a lot of water and still have a dry mouth you should probably see a doctor. My answer would be to drink more water.

EDIT: Just read the "yellow pee" response. He's right. Drink more water.

*holds back 'velvet throat' comment*

How much is "a lot" of water? eg how much do you average a day?

Something I googled up

"Milk or cold water produces a smaller volume of viscous saliva"

Drink a lot of milk? And how cold is you water?

maybe try googling around more for 'viscous saliva'

you need about 8 cups of water a day + about 1 for every 10 minutes of exercise + 1 for every cup of pop you drink. assuming you have no caffine your pee should be very light yellow after a workout

And if you drink, make sure you compensate with the same amount of water

Yes. The thing about swimming is that you sweat and dont even realize it because you're wet. Definately drink alot more non alcholic, non caffienated drinks. Your urine should not be dark yellow. It should be white to light yellow and you should urinate often. If you continue to have these saliva issues see a dentist. Your mouth makes 2 types of saliva (sticky and watery) and if one is compensating the other you could have something wrong like a blocked saliva duct or something. Also are you on any medications? Like anti-depressants or such? They can cause dry mouth too.
