To hide my shame I pretend my Bulldozer is a 2500k and never look inside my case...I even have an "Intel Inside" sticker on my case... :p

Dont even bother with the K series IVB procs, they are too hot to OC very high, some people cant even get past 4.3 with an H100. SB can do 4.3 stock cooling
3570k @ 4.8 on air here. And I don't even have a great chip. :whiste::biggrin:

A lot freaking better than the 3770K I had that was unstable at stock lol. And yes, 4.8 on air for an Ivy is extremely good. Most don't make it past 4.4/4.5 without dangerous volts.

Don't feel bad Op,i was rocking the socket 478 pentium 4 till the e6750 core 2 duo chip came out,i quickly added a 8800gts 512mb to replace a overclocked 2.4ghz p4,not the c model, but the type typically found in the dell dimensions that did not clock that well, that and a 7800gs.

I was prob the only guy ever to get 3.4ghz on air out of such a pentium 4,it was not really known to go over 3ghz,that is why the crappy dell towers more then likely got them, especially the 2400 model.

Wow thanks for the info my friend SammichPG

Your right I never even thought of a Bulldozer , But the question is whats better a quad and HT so you see 8 in taskman OR Bulldozer pure 8 core ?

Yes your right my DAW would love bulldozer. Looks like Sandy E is the next option. I can live with 32GB if thats its limit. thanks again guys and SammichPG you pown!

I'm not familiar with audio software, so I don't know much about DAW- is it mainly focused on floating point calculations, or integer calculations? If it's floating point, don't go with Bulldozer- it's a weird architecture, in effect it has 4 FP cores and 8 integer cores. (It's why BD tends to suck at game workloads, but do fairly well at databases and things like that :) ) Sandy Bridge E i7-3930K would be the next big step up in floating point performance over an Ivy Bridge i7.

I'm still biding time with my overclocked AMD Athlon x2 3600+ overclocked to 2.8ghz. I've got another one at 2.6ghz. 4GB. Upgraded with a better video card (7770), Windows 7, and going to try to find 2 more sticks of 2GB DDR2 800's and got a Kingston V200 120GB SSD. Seems like it's going to fly relative to how it used to be.

I thought I was all alone in the AM2/AM2+ club. :p

until last year, we ran our protools HD , the whole 48 tracks, on core2duo based powerPC macs...

lolwut? (no such thing. PowerPC processors were replaced by Intel chips in '05/'06. No computer had both - it'd be like an "Athlon based i7 rig.")

Anyway, yeah, DAW isn't as CPU intensive as people think. You just need a quiet system (for listening/sanity) with solid I/O performance and 14 different kinds of backup. And, at least in the old days, EMI shielding all over the place.

CPU helps processing realtime effects, but if you're using enough of those to max out a midrange quad-core... I doubt I'd have any interest in listening to your music and I'll leave it at that.

2400Mhz from 2007 ...... how much faster would a Sandy 2600k be ?

So you all know my mobo got busted, but this used P5K I got works @ 2400 only.. Any overclocking and it doesn't post.

So Im stuck @ 2400Mhz ddr800 when I could of had my 3.7Ghz OC

I dont know if my voltage is bum because of mobo or PSU.. sighs..

Sorry for your loss. I know how you loved that 6600. Thats what I went from as well about 2 yrs ago to the 2600k. My sweet spot with no system lock ups ever during heavy gaming is 4.5GHz on air.
