2400Mhz from 2007 ...... how much faster would a Sandy 2600k be ?

So you all know my mobo got busted, but this used P5K I got works @ 2400 only.. Any overclocking and it doesn't post.

So Im stuck @ 2400Mhz ddr800 when I could of had my 3.7Ghz OC

I dont know if my voltage is bum because of mobo or PSU.. sighs..

I have the P5N SLI and the same CPU(Q6600) cant do jack with it, even with the pencil mod my vdroop is retarded.

My bios is being dumb too, it wont save changes. I have to look back at it.

I guess 3570K on a nice board would be in order. It would be leaps and bounds ahead of your Q6600 in every way you can imagine. The only downside is that you need to shell out some $$$ to get it :p.

My friend maybe its a hint for us to move on. and get a Sandy Bridge E .

your mobo is crapping out mine is already crapped.. Im shocked stock works.

At least you stopped blaming your PSU for the limited overclocking..........thats a start.

Grab a 2500K, or if you dont want to overclock a 3550. Dont even bother with the K series IVB procs, they are too hot to OC very high, some people cant even get past 4.3 with an H100. SB can do 4.3 stock cooling

Thanks you two, How much is a Sandy E

or just stick with Sandy 2600k ?

I just need mobo / RAM / CPU .. thats it. I think my PSU is fine, its that mobo that blows

A 2600K is going to be a premium over the 2500K (about $100 or another 50%, 199 vs 299)

Being you gotten by this long without it, it really comes down to budget. The 2500k will be night and day different than your 2400 chip from the past.

What are you going to do that warrants sandy-E?

Im a music producer / composer. I use DAW

Sonar X1

and I need 64GB RAM to pre load my templates but not neccesary.

The more core the better.

Right now avg project takes about 90 percent CPU. Audio engine @ 64bit 1ms latency 32bit 192khz. On that same project how much would Sandy take.

But this is at 3.7Ghz , now 2400Mhz :( I have 30 tracks , real time synths and plugins,, more RAM better once I upgrade mobo and CPU I will get 64GB RAM.

The more core the better.

Right now avg project takes about 85 percent audio engine. I want Sandy to takes 40 percent drop in 64GB ram and load all sounds.

If you can afford it the 2600K or better will be your huckleberry doing this.

sb-e x4 3820 = $299.99
sb-e x6 3930 = 569.99

mobo asrock x79 extreme3 = $199.99
asus rampage lV gene x79 = $279.99

so on the cheap side 3820+ asrock mobo = $499.98 without shipping

on the high asus rampage+3930 $849.98 without shipping.

Tweak that blistering fast SSD killed your motherboard. Most likely it was feeling cheated :)

Sorry your experiencing that. Did the pencil volt work ? Are things in BIOS same as Windows.

Also set NB voltage to 1.7v set your voltage from auto to 1.3v and see how things work,, gl

Right on, thank you for the info. Heres the thing Im never going to SLI so that Rampage is a overkill. ASUS P79 ,,, I know Im saying it wrong,, but that mobo would be better and can still do SLI. Sandy E 6 core sounds juicy, I def wouldnt need another upgrade until 2020 when games look like movies LOL

I'm still biding time with my overclocked AMD Athlon x2 3600+ overclocked to 2.8ghz. I've got another one at 2.6ghz. 4GB. Upgraded with a better video card (7770), Windows 7, and going to try to find 2 more sticks of 2GB DDR2 800's and got a Kingston V200 120GB SSD. Seems like it's going to fly relative to how it used to be.

Why do you run your DAW at 1ms latency when anything under 9 or 10 ms is really quite difficult to notice/feel? At last for me I set my interface to 6 ms but even at whatever setting equates to 10 or so milliseconds is hard to notice.
It would certainly give your current set up room to breathe if setting ASIO to anything under 10ms.

On an old Gina24 by Echo many years ago I felt anything past 11ms was noticeable, on an Oyx400F anything under 9 ms was best but that device had many issues with the FW interface, great sounding kit though and on this Multiface2 anything under 12ms is fine but I run at 6ms which is 256 samples.

Just a thought..

@TB: For DAW, you can use every cycle you can get. Even a 2500K would be a huge boost, but I'd get more if you can manage it. DAW is one of the few applications that can use anything you can throw at it. By comparison, my system is hellacious overkill for the type of creative work that I do. A 2600K or an SB-E would just blow you away.

Im a piano player as well. I have never gotten a crash your anything. works like a charm, 1ms is like playing the piano. its instant.. and my projects are running fine. Avg 70 to 80 percent on a project. NO drop outs or other problems. Im using modded Uni Xonar driver. Low DPC latency choosen and ASIO 2.0.0.7 All plugins and synths load super fast. Trust me my friend Ive been playing piano since 10, Im 35 now. I can tell a difference from 10ms to 5ms , to 3ms.. too slow and laggy,,,,,, 1ms is instant.... is good with me. No breathing room needed my system handles the 1ms 32bit 192khz, x64 Sonar X1 Producer.

Assuming that you have a 1000$ budget, when it comes to cpu and gpu buying top parts every 5+ years isn't the best way to invest money.
You'd be better served by mid/high range cpu with a 2-3 years upgrade cycle, you'd end up even spending less money.

Bulldozer (or better piledriver) might be also quite good in a DAW since you can use every core in those CPUs, the platform as a whole it's cheaper as well.

If you're really sure that you need 64gb of ram sandy bridge-e is your only choice I guess...

Wow thanks for the info my friend SammichPG

Your right I never even thought of a Bulldozer , But the question is whats better a quad and HT so you see 8 in taskman OR Bulldozer pure 8 core ?

Yes your right my DAW would love bulldozer. Looks like Sandy E is the next option. I can live with 32GB if thats its limit. thanks again guys and SammichPG you pown!

Buy a used motherboard that will allow OC then use that until Haswell drops next year?
