I am an idiot -- how much to fix a dent like this?

So I was changing tires in my tiny shared apartment garage... when i pulled in I tapped a crate that had a spare rim on top of it -- didn't think anything of it. 30 minutes later as I reverse out the crate that had the rim on top tips back towards the car and the rim falls on my hood.

So flat tire on the way home (second one in 3 months), wet tiny garage, changing all 4 tires by hand, freezing outside --- and then a rim falls on my hood. SERENITY NOW!

Anyway, could I pops-a-dent this? What would a shop charge? Plz don't say new hood or I'll be stuck with this forever.

Sorry for crappy cell pics:

I had a couple of small dents on my roof (smaller and less deep than yours) from ice, and the body shop quoted about $500 to fix them, including paint. So in your case it very well might be cheaper to get a new hood at a junkyard or salvage shop.

You could ask around and if it is possible to do PDR on your dent, which might be cheaper since it wouldn't require paint.

The paint work costs more than the dent, by far. $500 is a reasonable ballpark figure. Usually a replacement hood will have to be painted, it's MUCH better to repair that original hood, unless it's far worse than it looks. I could PM you the going rate (in my area, anyway) if there were better pics and more specific vehicle info.

I had paintless dent repair fix this for about $300. I feel like they could get your dent out very easily.

$13 from Harbor Freight

I've had a dent like yours that I pulled out with this. It doesn't make it look back to new but it pulls out 90% of it. It looks a bit like when you dent in a soda can and undent it. There's a bit of imperfection, but it's hardly noticeable unless you look for it, and even then you'd only see it at the right angles. Paying several hundred for it when this costs $13 is fucking stupid.

A good "after" photo would be great.

I don't have any very good after pics, as I sold the car a while back and don't have a lot of pictures of just the rear quarter panels but it turned out fine, you couldn't tell there was a dent there after they had finished. Best I can do is this.

PDR will pop that out for 100 bucks. Can you get to the underside of that metal easily? Most hoods have 2 layers of metal.

I had hard door dents pulled out of the rear fender flare lip (where it's 3 layers of metal folded on each other) on an m3 for 150 bucks..

Id quote you $500-700 to repair at my shop. However the PDR guy I use could get that out for $150. Definitely look around for a PDR guy, any one who is competent can easily get that out.
