I love free things, even old and busted things (used to be a problem, not as much anymore with kids). This weekend was 'Put your busted crap no one wants on the street' day. Now, I usually don't pick anything up as it is indeed junk, but my parents were in town visiting and my mother is worse than I.
Things found:
Whole pile of old Tonka toys (the metal ones with glass windows)
Busted electric lawnmower
Seriously busted pressure washer
I think my son had a mild heart attack when he saw the trucks, he's 17 months and loses his mind when we go by construction sites. I think he spent a solid 3 hours putting dirt in the back of the dump truck, then into his bucket. So many pictures.
Lawnmower is messed, tear it down and find the rectifier is hosed, swap it out with some spares I have from old projects - 30 mins work and free 1.5hp mower.
Pressure washer is a different story. This thing looks like someone left it outside for a few years. Take it apart, find old mouse nest, other misc bits of life and such. Motor somehow remained sealed and turns freely. Take the pump apart, looks good, replaced o-rings and re-lubed pistons. Cleaned the outside, looks almost new again. Plug it in, pressure comes up right away, works great.
1 hour work, mum gets a new mower and I can clean my deck. Anyone else have awesome finds or I-fixed-it stories? Love reading them
