i just want to know if this is a common feature or is it just my over expensive (cheap) monitor.
i got a samsung syncmaster 740BX (17") for 199 shipped (lots of reasons including the fact that its has dvi_vga and 3yr warranty).

anyway i was just playing a simpsons episode on my my low brightness monitor (i lowered the setting from 100 to 16) and appareantly the screen area that has the video playing gets a brightness setting automatically. then when i move it the bright spot remains for a sec and then moves to the videos new location.

well i just want to know if this is a common feature or something nice that i can be happy about (still trying to justify not getting the 19" benq LOL)

Have Samsung MagicTune installed? It will detect a zone where the video is playing and increase the brightness. You should be able to disable it. Samsung MagicBright CRTs also had a feature where you could create a brightness zone, and I assume they migrated this to their LCDs. You're asking us if you should be happy about it? I don't know, do you like it?
