I did a 98 to XP upgrade and the only thing I lost was Norton antivirus. It was great. Even 2 programs that did not work well in 98 now work. I had the same fears but I love XP now.

EDIT:
Tripleshot-Sorry bud. I was not trying to make you look bad. I was just saying that I often start here for homework because I respect the knowledge many people have here.

Try to run Nba Live 2002 on Windows XP. Doesn't work although it does run on Windows 98. There ARE some programs that really doesn't work (also with the compatibility patches from MS), but they are pretty rare.

Have no fear. WinXP works great and you will not regret it. Esp. if you are going from 98 or ME to XP.

I stand corrected. Thank you. My bad. I apologize.

If you want a program to run that is not built for xp, right click on the executable of the program and select the compatibility mode you want to run the program in. Then launch it. You have many selections.

also, many times I have usedprograms that get the nag screen about "this program is not Xp aproved" or driveers are not signed. I ignore the warnings and install. 9 times out of 10 they work fine. If they don't, I can roll back with the click of a mouse buttonm to an erlier restore point. Piece of cake. XP is a good OS as you get to learn all that it offer, including remote desktop if you need help.

Good luck.;)

That still doesn't always work. I have one program that I really must have to work before I upgrade my main machine to XP and it doesn't. Thankfully I found an alternative that works just as well. I will be upgrading this week I hope.

I wouldn't worry about it at all. There are very few programs that don't work with XP. Of course, a lot of DOS programs don't like XP, but I doubt that you're still using DOS programs. The only things I've found that didn't work with XP were my anti-virus program, ConfigSafe, and EZ CD Creator 4.0. The AV program and ConfigSafe were upgraded, and I'd been needing an excuse to switch to Nero anyway. I didn't care for XP's new interface, but I just set everything back to classic mode and it's all good.
