1. Cover the car but punch a few small holes on the cover so some air can get in there.
2. If it has been 5k miles since the last oil change, I say get an oil change.
3. Unplug your battery wires, you don't want a dead battery when you get back.
4. If you are living in Texas or something, I would leave one of the windows open (about an inch) to let air flow.
5. Try not leaving too much gas in the tank.

hmm unplugging the battery wires seems like a good idea..

Why would you leave the windows open for dust to get in?

I would not cover the car with a cover. A carport is more than enough. Car covers do scratch your car and they also act like a moisture barrier which keeps the moisture in your car which does no good for a car.

Unless you live in a cold place, in which case you'd want to leave it full so condensation doesn't form inside the tank and freeze when it drops below freezing at night.

Actually, this isn't recomended anywhere. Air is what kills gasoline, so leaving a big air space in your gas tank will cause your fuel to go sour much faster than if it were completely full.

But since we're only talking about a month here, it's no big deal.

I would also change the oil before you go if it's been more than a couple months since your last change. Oil breaks down over time and with use.

my car's oil changed is governed by the on board computer... Im currently at 5k miles, the comp said to bring the car in for service at 10k miles...

I would follow the recommendations in the owners manual. For example, Nissan recommends that I change the oil in my car (2003 Nissan Maxima) every 3,750 miles. I believe this is based on the assumption that I will drive 15,000 miles annually so this equates to an oil change every 3 months.
