I am a total noob about installing SATA ...

Hi all,

I am a total noob about installing SATA drives... and need some guidance as to what procedures to follow.

I have an MSI KT8 Neo mobo + AMD 64 3700+ CPU and a WD 74GB Raptor drive.

My mobo has SATA connectors and came with SATA disks but I am not sure how to install Windows on this disk because the mobo doesn't see the drive when I boot up. A friend of mine took the drive with him and hooked it up on his machine and Windwos sees the drive but why not on mine? I am not sure as to what I need to do to get the mobo to see this drive?

Thanks.

Does the drive show up in BIOS? If so, you just have to do a "F6" install. When you boot off of the windows CD (I'm guessing this is XP...), it will say something to the effect of "Press F6 to install RAID/SCSI drivers". At that point, you hit F6, and insert the floppy disk with the drivers to the SATA controller on the motherboard.

Go to the website for your motherboard, and they should have the drivers available there. And if you do all of this on your friends computer (or the computer you are posting from), it's easy.
