I am a little bit disturbed

So I was in my local Target today.... While looking around I decide to see how many American goods I could find. Out of about 20, I could only find one--- Dog biscuts. Only one brand was made here and it was cheaper than the one made in China ?? WTF ?? When manufacturing jobs started going overseas, people said they would move into jobs that required more skills. Well, now that technology jobs are starting to leave, what are the tech people to do ? What's next ? Banking ? Engineering ? Chances are, it could be you job.

I have to disagree with what you're saying but I'll leave the arguments out. Maybe later, too tired.

My favorite thing is the irony of our gov't scaring it's citizens about 'homeland security' and working to 'tighten up security'.... while at the same time more and more companies and some gov't contracts for computer programming are being sent off shore. Great security there! 😉

I work at Kroger. It's funny how they keep shoving all of this Wal-Mart is bad because they don't have a union and they only buy Chinese made goods to keep prices low. So what did they start doing? They try to find every loophole in our union contract to screw over the workers and they buy Chinese made "general merchandise" items and sell them at ridicolous mark-up. LOL hypocrisy in action I say. I refused to watch a video of how Wal-Mart is ruining our country when they are doing the same damn thing. That's right they tried to make employees watch a video about that. :|

american companies cannot compete with china's industries. things like unions and our higher of standard of living here are the very reasons that it costs so much to produce consumer goods in the U.S. when a factory worker in mainland China makes US$2 a day to make the same product that an American would get paid $15 an hour to make, we're pretty much fvcked.

I just read an article last week and they stated that bank teller and cashier positions are being eliminated by technology. It seems like this would be true. At the moment you can go into Kmart and pay without the assistance of a cashier. Pretty soon most major retail stores will have sections where the customer will be able to pay for their items without the assistance of a cashier.

Also, outsourcing is for real and I love the people that try to put a positive spin on the matter. Maybe it's because they are scared that their job might be lost to outsourcing so they try and stay upbeat on the issue? The article stated that financial advisors, software engineers and other jobs related to the tech field are the ones that will most likely feel the effects of outsourcing. How can a software engineer who makes $70,000 a year compete with someone from China that makes $650 a month? They can't so it's much more cost effective to send the work overseas and to eliminate the $60,000 salary.

The article then went on and stated that low paying jobs in health care and the education are going to flourish because they require more of a hands-on approach. Jobs related to health care and education that need people badly and aren't going to be affected by outsourcing are special education and nursing.

if other professions outsource/relocate, i see a steady increase in the "hired goons" sector?
