... I wasn't always that way though. I was an extrememly courteous driver for the longest time. (giving at least 2 seconds time between the car in front of me)

Now I sometimes find myself mere feet from the car in front of me on the interstate going 70+ mph. The old me would want guns mounted on his car so he could shoot me down.

Don't know what made me change though. For some reason, I don't care. Slap me or something.

you're supposed to put 1 second for every 10 miles per hour between you and a car infront. 2 seconds means your an @$$hat just like everyone else :p

7 seconds between you and another driver at 70mph?

that's close to a 6th of a mile...

hahahahahahahahhaha you leave that much room in front of you and there will be 10 cars pulling infront of you every 5 seconds...youd ahve to come to a complete stop....that rule of thumb is outdated and stupid.

no, it's suppose to be 3 seconds behind the car in front of you. and that's on the highway.

or so i was taught...i do more like 1 car length regardless lol

a second of ditance is completely variable depending on how fast you are going. Where 1 second might come close to a carlength at 10-20 mph... 1 sec at 100 mph is quite a bit more distance.

I'm a bad driver too, but only in terms of skill. I'm very courteous and cautious on the tarmac.

What sucks is that I try to maintain a good distance, because other people are crap drivers and I want to have time/space to avoid whatever stupidity they end up committing... and jackasses assume that it's okay for them to just pull in-between us. So then I have to back off a little to get enough space between me and THAT jackass.

YES! darn he beat me to the punch. but anyway, yes, i learned in driving school that its 3 seconds behind the car ahead of you. the distance will change, but not the time.

I doubt you could be as bad as some of my friends. If you're are constantly drifting off the road then maybe you should let a buddy drive you around, that's what I had to do for him.

2 seconds at 80 mph is a huge distance . . . enough that people will always be jumping in front of you, and as you slow to regain the 2 secs the guy behind you will jump around and pass and before you know it you are at the bottom of a 300 car pile-up . . .
