Why is genius not spelled genious if serious is spelled serious? English is impossible.

Things like this happen in every language. What I can't get over is how spelling rules don't always apply in every situation. :|

That's why everyone should use Oxford English. Then you know how to check to see if your cheque has clear int he bank. In addition, i believe the reason Genius is not spelled Genious is that is come from a different latin root and would have caused it to develop into a different meaning over the years.

But i'm no scholar.

Genius isn't pronouced the same way as serious.
