I almost saved you all from my stupid Q's... I still need some BIOS help.

I needed to know who manufactured my motherboard, so I began to tear apart my house (well the computer room anyway). I stumbled across the manual for the MB. It turns out its made by a company called GVC. In a couple of minutes I found their website and also the latest BIOS bin's.

I know many old 440BX MB can support faster CPU's (PIII or C2) with a simple BIOS flash and this GVC MB doesn't seem any different according to the BIOS updates on the website.

http://www.gvc.com.tw/eng/view2-2.htm

My motherboard is a "QS440BX Pentium II AGP" according to the front of the manual, but if you look at the BIOS bin listings for the BX motherboards, they have it listed as QS-440BXA. That A at the end has me a bit worried because I don't want a dead MB after I try to flash it. Should I have anything to worry about?

Also the version numberings have me confused. Is it safe to assume that the BIOS update with the latest date is the best one? FYI according to the manual I have an "AWARD BIOS based on 1MB Flash ROM" so I should pick the 3/23/99 bin, no?

Help a newbie flasher, please.

Great site, but apparently they don't have any flash info for my GVC motherboard. I found nothing I didn't know already. The only GVC info they had was the website, which I have.

The lostcircuits site is very informative. I already found a tutorial at overclockers.com the other day though.

I'll keep looking :(
