I've already referenced this post and this post, so you know I've done my homework :)

what I'm working with:
~ epox 8rda+
~ xp2100+ revb
~ corsair 512 pc3200
~ copper sk7
~ ys tech adjustable 80mm
~ hec 350w

what I want to know is hard numbers to oc to. I've read that you want to match the fsb to the ram somewhere too. someone just give me a straight answer :) I'm not aiming for hard core overclocking, I just wanna hit 2.1 ~ 2.3, and I'm pretty sure that's not too hard to do with the right numbers, so give it here! I guess I'm looking for multiplier, fsb, vcore, and ram timings. hopefully I'm not missing anything...I'm just a beginner who wants to get more without spending days getting the most :)

well its not always as easy as giving you #'s, and then you doing it lol

for starters, read this

only other thing to look for, is the multiplier...which is already relatively low to begin iwth if im not mistaken

alright, so, that article is okay, but still damn vague. so, do I want to start with a low mult (like 2?) and up the fsb as high as it'll go until it doesn't post, then raise the mult until it doesn't post, then up the vcore until it doesn't post? what about memory numbers? I guess I'm just still so confuzzled about how to go about oc'ing...

sorry to bother you guys, I'm sure you've been asked plenty of times. someone needs to come up with an unvague and methodical way to oc :)

with your parts, just try setting the vcore to 1.7v, and up the fsb to 166 and go from there. run your memory at 100%, you can probably do 2,2,5,2 with 2.6 or 2.7volts. good luck.

I believe these are the most accurate numbers. That ram can easily hit much higher FSBs though with aggressive timings.

thats a pretty good starting point.

13x166@1.7 volts
2.77vdimm


From there,raise the fsb by 2 mhz increments or so,run prime95 for 5-10 minutes everytime you change it.

once prime95 starts returning errors up the voltage by .25 and run it again. if its stable then up the fsb again.

set your memory timings at 2.0-3-3-6 for now. once you figure out how high you can overclock to,then you can up your timings later on.

as you raise your fsb,past 170 probably you will start to see diminishing returns. This is basically how i did it,after asking around.

for myself:

at 13x170@1.725 volts it was stable but degraded from there
13x172@1.75
13x177@1.8
13x180@1.85

i basically quit at that point,got to chicken to continue and wasnt comfortable with the voltages i was putting through the cpu core.im by no means an expert but it is basically trial and error,to figure out how far you can overclock. once your not comfortable with something,id suggest you stop.

is it really that hard to oc? I mean, it doesn't seem like it should sound so hard...I'd think there'd at least be a list of steps. oh well! anyone else have anything to add?

Overclocking is pretty easy, its keeping everything cool and not burnt that can be tricky =)


Aiden gives good advice, I would follow what he says. upping things slowly and running tests is the best way to determine where it will actually run at, safely

i would have gotten further into it, but i was tired and lazy and half....well...we will call it out of it ;)

keep an eye on the +5v line for the most part in windows...if it goes to low your oc will be limited
