I almost hated Uverse

I recently got Uverse, despite a number of stories about problems with the service. Sure enough, the first day we got it the picture would freeze for minutes on end, taking with it all intarweb service. I called for a tech to come out, he replaced something but didn't seem confident that it would help. The normal cause for this problem is improper initial install related to use of coax cable. My install guy was thorough and I asked him to use all CAT5, so that wasn't the problem.

The repair guy thought it might be a grounding problem, so he put an order in to have someone come out and ground the phone line properly at some point. I think that must've been today, because I've been freeze-free all evening, and my modem stats show I've been service interruption free for over 11.5 hrs. It used to be that number never went above 2 hrs.

Hooray for Uverse. Some people have had terrible issues, but AT&T has bent over backwards to make sure I'm happy (they actually wanted to send a tech out sooner than I even wanted and were very apologetic), and I am. I have faster internet, better TV, and I'm finally able to get rid of my home phone, thus making this whole thing a bit cheaper than my inferior satellite and DSL.

I ordered Uverse at my parent's house, even though they are in love with DirecTV. It was the only way to get the faster Internet upload that I wanted for Slingbox. And they wouldn't allow an internet only install. So I got the free install with one TV setup, on the U-200 package, with a free month of TV. In total I was supposed to get $150 worth of Visa cards, but I got them plus another $100 gift check. Total I made $210 (after paying for 2/3 of one month of TV package to get the rebates), to get the faster upstream for the same price.

I love my U-verse service too. DVR that can record 4 channels at the same time (or 3 + 1 that you're watching) and then you can play that recorded video on any other TV in the house. So good.

We were talking about this in a team meeting at the call center I work for which is tech support for DSL, we mainly just transfer misroute calls to Uverse. The one problem is that if one thing goes down everything is going with it, including your TV, Internet, and phone.

I wish Uverse had worked for me. It was cheap and when it worked it was great, but too many outages forced me to cancel.

I don't have voip so the phones aren't a problem. Assuming this grounding took care of the problem I'm not too worried about an occasional service interruption, those happen with any provider.
