I was cleaning my computer fans (heatsink specificall) and when I put the heat sink/fan and CPU back on, i forgot to latch the CPU in place. I latched the heat sink/fan combo irregardless. When I started the PC, I heard a slight spark and the air around the processor smelled like something got burnt up :(

I pull everything out and there are no char marks on the processor. I put everything back together and the computer starts and runs, but no video. There is also no POST. I exchanged the processor for a new one at a Fry's and the exact same thing is happening. Therefore, I am assuming the issue is not the processor. Because the computer doesn't POST, I want to guess it is the MOBO. Although, it could have also fried the memory right? Could it make it to the video or PSU? What all could go wrong here and what would be your steps to resolving this?

Just in case you want to know...

Mobo = Gigabyte K8NS Pro
CPU = AMD 64 3400+
RAM = Corsair XMS
Video = ATI x800XT
PSU = Antec TruBlu 550W

Thanks in advance,
Adam

try run mobo + cpu + ram (just 1 stick)
most board will POST with error but at least it will give you beeps ... so that way you can be sure the problem is not the mobo.
then from there put the ram one by one in there ... then the video afterward

but if you can get another board, try change the mobo first, cause that way you can sort of be sure that the board doesn't fry anything else when you try find where the problem is

I also forgot to mention that the CD rom drives did not open at first. I changed some of the PSU connections around and now 1 of the drives open, but the other does not open. It also appears that the hard drives are not spinning. 2 of the hard drives are SATA. The heat sink and the fans along with the MOBO has power. The memory on the mobo has LED indicators and they are not lighting up either. This makes me think it is somewhere between the MOBO and the PSU.
