Apparently when this bridge was built the original contractor pulled out because the core samples they were drawing wouldnt support the bridge the way they wanted it. The contractor was running into boulders and couldnt plant the piers into bedrock.

This is a pretty big development because it suggests the ground wasnt stable for the foundation of the bridge. It is also significant because they plan on rebuilding right over the same site. The current contractor doesnt know about these issues and MNDOT unsurprisignly cant find any documentation either. Though I expect the current contractor to do their own sampling and it should be interesting to see what they find.

My theory on what happened is the Feds plotted the highway system and when it came time to build the bridge they had no leeway on where it went. When these issues were brought up they simply buried it and hoped for the best. In other words, you typical govt working hard to protect people.

It isnt surprising the piers moved if the foundation wasnt solid. Hell it could be the entire reason why the whole thing came down.

Yeah something big is going down, my company develops software that is used by state DOT's to develop their highway contracts and we were told by our legal department to preserve all emails and any data sent to or from MNDOT, ever.

I will wait for the official report. I've tilted at enough windmills today and Sancho is tired.

The contractors working on the bridge when it collapsed said it was unstable. Yet they still had it open to traffic. The whole design was probably flawed.

The whole government is terribly flawed yet we do nothing about it.

It is kind of funny. I did a search on this and the thread I was going to respond to was Daves post about the piers shouldnt be moving like they did.

But I felt this news deserved its own thread. Quite shocking information if you ask me. And I wonder if they cant plant the new bridges foundation what they will do?

Just as a side note, I find some of this geological stuff fascinating. When in Fargo doing to school. NDSU was thinking of forming a Div1A hockey team but needed an arena built. The business leaders wanted it downtown near business. The school wanted it on campus next to the Fargo dome. I went to a seminar on something and that topic was brought up. The reason why it couldnt go down town was the underlying geological features of Fargo couldnt support such a building. Apparently it is clay and the fear was it would simply slide into the river.

You think when you look at these huge buildings they build a large enough foundation and it holds. But with the weight of these things the earth itself is required to be able to sustain such a building.

Oh come on. The "Official" report will be a cover up.

As it happens I find as much or more 'creative license' in conspiracy uncoverings as I do in official cover-ups.

Yeah me too. I saw a program on the history channel that was all about the new Berlin that Hitler was trying to build with all of these grandiose buildings and the research that his architect Speer had to go through to test foundations and so forth.

Turns out Berlin's soil had no chance of supporting most of the buildings so they were either never started or only half finished. There are still some massive underground "roads" under Berlin that were to transport thousands of people to these new state buildings for assemblies and such.

The Volkshalle was a building modeled on the Pantheon except much larger to hold 180,000+ people in a closed dome. The noise from the people and/or speaker could have possibly caused deafness and the breath and perspiration from that many people in such an confined space would actually cause it to rain indoors.

Did Bush cause the bridge to collapse?
