A while back I bought a Seagate 120GB hard drive. It stopped working one day and I finally got around to mailing it in for warranty replacement. A couple of minutes ago UPS came to the door and dropped off my new 250GB hard drive! Woo!

I checked the packing list and it's the right drive in the box, so I don't think there's a problem with me keeping it.

Lot's of Harddrive companies do it, although I've only had WD and IBM upgrade without asking...for some reason, Maxtor always seem to have the same models in stock.

From IBM I received a 68-pin Hitachi drive with 16MB cache for a replacement of an old 80-Pin 8MB cache drive.

From WD, I got an 80GB drive for replacement of a 60GB one.

Maxtor, I've always gotten replacements with the same model/size, and they have all died soon after replacement. I currently have 4 Maxtor 120GB drives lying around that cannot be trusted to hold data. They all work for a week, then disappear from my computer.

i had a 200gb seagate die last year. i'm gonna wait 3 more years before trying to get it replaced. :Q

When I had to RMA a KDS 19" flat CRT that I got on clearance several years ago as the model was discontinued, the first one I got back was also bad so they then gave my a LCD as they had no more CRTs in the system.
