Could the decoders in smart TVs be hijacked to insert subliminal messages into the display or soundtrack? Using AI it might be possible to even insert product placements into programs at the receiving end.

you would have to send the data to the decoder, convince the decoder to accept it from two sources, then sync it correctly. And then yes, but that's unrealistic given the current technology.
Also, the usefulness of subliminal messages is dubious.
