hyundia accent issues

Sister has a 98 Hyundia Accent. Starts fine idle and revs fine but will barely pull. Once in gear nothing changes other than when you drive it, it only gets up to about 15mph on the floor. Does little better if I manually shift it but not much. Any ideas on whats causing this?

Does the engine rev up and not move or no reving and just seems liek there is no gas?

If it revs and does not move then that is usually in the Trans slipping. Check trans fluid for color/smell and also level.

it doesn't rev up at all nor does it try and stall while in gear. Seems like it is starving for gas. But like I said if I manual shift it will sometimes try and rev up and start moving.

Is the enigne light on?


Might be a throttle position sensor or a throttle cable. Is the throttle pedal very easy to push or still has some pressure to it? Have you tried to rev the motor up by opening the throttle by hand on the engine?

peddle does have pressure and it revs up on both the inside and out. The engine light is on but was on before the problem.

You have said it revs and it does not rev?

Also pull teh enigne codes as your problem may be in there. I think autozone still rents the OBD2 code puller if not buy a cheap one from Harbor freight or other cheap store. Just need a basic one.

It always revs while not in gear either using the peddle or doing it under the hood. Problems come when you put it in gear it doesn't rev at all and barely pulls. The codes was pulled a month or so ago and pointed to the mass air flow sensor which could be whats causing the problem. She has yet to fix that. However more codes could be present now I'll have to look into that.

Also disconnect the negative battery cable after you pull the codes to reset everything and see if that helps at all.
