I stopped by the hyundai dealer on lunch to inquire about the new veloster turbo and the interior of the base they had in stock didn't feel like a 19K dollar car.

Sales manager didn't have a date of when they would get the new turbo in stock but am very interested in getting one if they don't gouge the shit out of it.

Roumor has it that the turbo will be $22k.

Sounds like a budget MS3, but I doubt it drives as well. They will have to compete on price, and it sounds like OTD pricing might be what, $4k less on a Veloster turbo? Aside from looking like a melted alien carcass from the outside (not like the Speed3 is much better with that idiotic gaping grin), I think the Veloster has an edge interior-wise. Mazda3 interior has always been a low point. Functional, but lots of cheap hard plastics and horrible, horrible carpeting. The gauges are nice in them though.

Big fan of the MS3 but its fuel economy leaves a lot to be desired. One of the reasons i like the Veloster turbo is for its 38mpg highway raiting and a 10 year powertrain warranty doesn't hurt either.

Oh yeah, on that aspect I agree. I'm still annoyed/shocked that Mazda hasn't updated the Speed3 to include the HUUUUUGELY improved 2.5L i4 to replace the old 2.3L. In every other implementation that jump has improved both fuel economy and power at the same time, which is quite an accomplishment.

Alternatively they could make a Speed3 with 260bhp from the SkyActiv 2.0L variant. It would be even better for fuel economy, but likely have much less of a power ceiling than the 2.3 or 2.5 give/would give.

Focus Turbo ST - can not wait to see the testing of the ST in comparison to all the other $25K Go Fast pocket rockets.

Veolster Turbo comes in pretty high on price - $22K is base, fully optioned they will be $27K with DCT, Style & Tech package unless the Turbo comes with the Style pack included.

I'll guess its Nav & Panoramic Roof & 8spkr audio system.

Focus ST, GTI, MSP 3, Cooper S, Abarth, Veloster Turbo, Dart RT, Civic SI, - Cant wait to see the test of $25k cars.

A guy I work with just got a new Veloster and while he loves it, he says he wishes it had a little more kick to it. We took a drive for lunch in it and I have to say I liked it (as much as I could in the passenger seat).

I've been eyeing the Focus ST hard and I'm all but than certain I'll be ditching my MKV Golf for it.

What's the weight and 0-60 of this thing? I just found a link on autoblog and it did not seem very quick...

Is the ST Fwd or Awd?

The C1.X platform supports AWD, but the ST is FWD, with a trick differential to try to mitigate the negatives of FWD. I am cautiously optimistic, but of course as a pure performance vehicle it will still be low value for $. As an all-rounder, pretty nice though.

Isn't it awd over in europe?

Its not going to be fast. 0-60 is shaping up to be 7 seconds flat with the auto
Ick. Considering a 3.5 Altima can be had for the same price right now, get low 6's, and is much larger (yeah, I know it's not a "roadster" and it's worse on gas), I am not compelled by this thing.

Big fan of the MS3 but its fuel economy leaves a lot to be desired.

I think the "real world" MPG is not bad considering the "published" EPA numbers. For instance I think the MS6 and WRX have the same published numbers, but in real world driving the MS6 consistently gets a couple MPG higher. In "set the cruise control" highway driving I've gotten 30MPG, while the WRX can barely hit around 26-27. Similar for mixed driving. The "rated" highway is 25MPG on both.

Then again, the WRX seems to have better acceleration to offset the lower MPG.

IMO the Altima is boring and can't get 38mpg on the highway so i'm not even considering it. I don't need a speed demon. I just need something good on gas and quick when i put my foot down.

The first car i looked at was the MS3 but when i saw 18/25 on the sticker i was like not a chance.

I really want this car to be cool, but in typical Hyundai fashion, it will make 20% less power than advertised, get 40% worse fuel economy than advertised, and the manual transmission will be from a 1989 Ford Escort. :/

This car will be a POS like its NA brethen. The 1989 Ford Escort comment is pretty accurate LOL!

Speed3 is a great car but a bit steeply priced new, the GTi is another worthy consideration but has some issues too.

If you don't mind a Hyundai, consider the Hyundai Genesis 2.0T. Its not bad but prepared for a bitchy tranny. Buy a used one and put in a performance clutch, add in a tune and you got a cheap track car.

Actually you can probably get a Speed3 for about 24k OTD depending on where you live.

Been hitting about 25mpg for 60/40 street/highway type driving which I feel is pretty nice not to mention it's a freaking blast to drive.

You haven't been around cars much lately have you? :hmm:

I bought my Veloster back in October just a few weeks after they became available. I'm not one to trade in cars but am seriously considering trading my Veloster for a new VTurbo. The extra power would be nice, but it's not my primary motivation. I bought the base model because the giant sunroof eats up alot of headroom. This made me miss out on a few other features that I really wanted such as leather seats and push button start. These items will be standard on the VT without having to add the roof.

The practical/sensible person in me will probably win out though and I'll keep happily driving my base V.

A bit of an exaggeration, but I can definitely agree on points 2 and 3.
