Hyundai Tiburon

I found one of these for the right price, its a 2001 and only has 66,000 miles (automatic transmission). Its going to be mainly used for going to school and work. The engine looks good, the interior and exterior look new with no rust or noticeable scrapes and it runs nice and smooth. How good are these cars however? Are they dependable? How many miles would it "last"?

My best friend's girlfriend has one. She hates it. The clutch has broken at least 3 times.

If it is a manual, i would say do not get it unless the price is really really great. Ask about the clutch because chances are it will be going soon. If this is not a manual this does not apply to you.

There is one for sale around here, it has been in the same spot with the for sale sign on it for 1.5 years. This place is big for the "tuner" car people so I don't know why it hasn't sold unless there is something wrong with it.

Ah yes, Warranty. I don't know if Hyundai was doing the 10 year warrantys back in '01. You may want to check on that. Good luck!

You like this car? I always thought it was a bit ugly myself. Does the Hyundai 10yr/100K mile warranty transfer?

Its not necessarily that I like it, its more that I need a car for school. My old car is a 1991 Nissan Stanza, great car, but its dying. Whenever I check the oil there are little particles on it.

The lady mentioned something about the warranty, but my mind is a bit hazy on it right now.

Also she's not a smoker so that's a plus on the car.

I drove the GT. Fun car to drive, but don't try to sit in the back!

I found the interior lacking and the driver comfort was not there.

You might want to PM dedpuhl. He owns one and he probably won't see this thread.

I have one too, the clutches arent the best, but if you keep putting the stock one back in after it breaks, it might be a good idea to get a different clutch 😛

Ive had this car for 18,000 miles. I drive it a few times a week on an 85 mile each direction commute. I'm 6'2 and find it VERY comfortable (I have the 05 SE with leather seats)

It is a Hyundai, and they have been doing better lately. I know the 2001 isnt quite in my tastes as far as body design, and Hyundai's turn around has been in the last few years, so I can't really speak for the 2001's.

Ive had no problems with mine so far, and i know the clutch is supposed to be weak (but if you know how to drive and dont slip or drop it will last you)

The 4 cylinders are woefully lacking from what Ive seen, so it depends if you are looking at a 4 cylinder or a 6 cylinder... Even the 6's are a little weak, and for a small 6 the gas mileage topping out at 30 mpg highway with a light foot is kinda dissapointing.

I've had mine up to about 115 as well, and it got there pretty quickly. On the tibby forums people have posted videos of stock ones getting up to 155 or so, I think thats with the 6 speed gearing in a GT.

It had a lot more to go, probably would see 140 easily.

In a couple of hours I'll go see the car... ill try to get some pics up if I end up buying it. Wish me luck.

Not in the 4 pot you won't. Not in the V6, either.
