Hypothetically: Time travel is invented, evolution is proven

OR: interstellar space travel is invented, we make contact with intelligent alien races who have their own culture.

Question: How do your religious beliefs change?

Wow. So in the face of 100% undeniable proof to the contrary, you'd just block your ears and yell "I'm not listening! I'm not listening!"

Pathetic.

Nope. There are many theories of evolution and God existing together. What does any of the above mentioned have to do with disproving the existence of God? you sir are pathetic.

I already told you drugs are very powerful.

If you even have to ask, you do not know someone who is truly religious.

You are correct, I do not know anyone who is completely religious. All of my friends are either light christians or agnostic (not that I chose them for that reason, that's just what they happened to be after the fact). Hence my question: if one of the most major points of the Bible or other religious text were proven wrong, would your beliefs change?

not mine, but for someone religious, probably about as fundamentally as they changed when it was proven that the heavens weren't moved by God in the 1500s.

How exactly do you define what it takes to go from somewhat religious to completely religious? Is the person that goes to Church every once and a while score a 42% on his religious meter while the person that goes every day scores a 100%?

What about the other option... making contact with an alien race who have developed an entire culture?

Not trying to spit on any religion, I'm honestly curious as to how/if your beliefs would change.

I would put somewhat religious barely over the line of someone who is agnostic. I am agnostic... I believe there is something after you die, but I have no idea whatsoever what it could be. I do not specifically believe in god, but I also do not deny the existance of god.

My example of light christian friends are people that believe there is a specific god, have read the bible, and believe parts of it; but they believe just as much in science and take evolution and the idea of other inhabited planets as a very valid option. They take the bible not as fact, but as a simple "don't be a jerk to your fellow man" idea.

EDIT: And they go to church on occation.

I don't think either would have an impact for me. I don't think evolution exists in contrast to God. Though aparently platinummike knows something I don't?

If we develop technology to go back in time, I hope we give people a sense of respect and manners instead of proving evolution. I think that would be far more useful.

What does the existence of Aliens have to do with whether God exists and created or at least started the universe?

Same goes for evolution.

Personally, I'm not particularly religious, and I think that evolution is almost beyond contradiction at this point, but even so it doesn't disprove or allow for a God to have started the ball rolling in the first place.

It's a good thing you're not a terrorist....

I hope.

Anywho, I'd tend to agree with the above in the fact some religious crazy would blow up the machine, hell Bush would probably give the order himself. Afterall if it was disproven how would Bush controll his mindless sheep?

My interpertation of the Bible was that the Earth was the one and only inhabited planet. Proving aliens existed would be a pretty huge mark against that, especially if they had their own religious beliefs that contradicted ours.

Please don't do this in this thread. I want to have a civil discussion. Bringing politics into it will only ruin the thread.
