Hey all

I have a hypothetical system build I'm thinking about and wondering what you guys think the minimum or required wattage would be needed for it?

Intel Core2 Quad Q6600
EVGA 780i sli Motherboard
2x2GB Gskill ram
XFX Nvidia 9800gt
1x250GB WD and 1x500GB sata drives

I would like to have room for adding another 4GB of ram and dual or even triple sli. Also like to have a modular PSU for the cable management. Any suggestions on wattage or brand are welcome. I was thinking 650-700W or a fission reactor either way. :D

If you want triple 9800GT SLi I would go for at least 750W.

How about Silverstone Decathalon 750W or 800W?

Actually the Antec Signature 850W is the same price as the Dechathalon 800W on newegg right now....for $199 that is a helluva deal.

Zalman 850W and Antec TPQ 850W are even cheaper and both also good.

You can't do triple 9800 GT. I know that an Asus video card has dual SLI fingers, but AFAIK the drivers won't allow it even if the hardware is present.

For the OP, look for a good brand that puts out at least 36A on the +12v, and preferably 40A+. That should give you the capability for 9800 GT SLI, with a bit of overhead.

The Antec Signature 850w is $299 on Newegg: http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16817371018

The Corsair 1000HX, on the other hand, is $199 after MIR: http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16817139007
