hypothetical stranded car situation

i have a hypothetical situation:

i've seen cars stranded on the side of highways w/ no people around. if the cars are still there a few days later, can i assume that no one will come back to pick them up? assuming that the police or local authorities don't take them as well, can i legally take them?

just curious as to what the laws and regulations are surrounding this.

Yes, they become public domain and anyone is allowed to take them.

does this hold true for card that are sitting on a dealer lot? If they sit there too long can I have my pick?

If someone abandons a car on a road, there is a real good chance that you wouldn't want it either.

look, i know a guy and something happened to his truck in the middle of the highway and he didn't want to spend the money to fix it...

so he just left it there. regardless of whether it is wanted, i just want to know the legality of towing away a car that's not mine but has been stranded for a few days.

If the owner doesn't report it stolen, then I guess you're good to go.

Let us know how it goes! 😉

The answer is you can be in a police cellblock for doing what you are asking.
