no, handrail would be attatched to the wall. banister is freestanding with the posts underneath.

Well since you probably won't be able to reach the kitchen or the medicine cabinet I'd say spit is the best and only lube (well maybe not only...) in this situation. As others have said "if it went in it can come out".

No, you come at whomever is stuck in the banister with the circular saw and they'll free themselves momentarily.
