First things first. This is a hypothetical question. So don't go and get overly excited. :)

Ok...I have been entertaining the idea of.....Trading my Playstation 3 console for a Nintendo Wii. Yes you read that right.

My PS3 was bought on January 14th. So it is still practically new. And it is a 40 gig model.

I don't know and can not figure out what it is...but I just have to have a Wii ( probably Mario Galaxy )
The only thing that has kept me from trading is Devil May Cry 4. That game is just too awesome.

If, and that is a BIG IF I decided to do this. What kind of deal should I go for ? I DO NOT want to sell it on ebay.

Now, The games I have are....

Uncharted Drakes Fortune
Devil May Cry 4 Collector's Edition
Conan
Madden 08
Heavenly Sword
Burnout Paradise
Assassins Creed
Ninja Gaiden Sigma
Marvel Ultimate Alliance

Now, If I decide to do this. I will most likely find someone ( that is willing of course ) to meet me somewhere for the swap. I just feel safer this way.

Any one that has nothing constructive to add, please leave the thread. I need this to be a serious discussion. And any Wii bashing, keep it to yourself.

That thought has crossed my mind as well. There would have to be something added to sweeten the deal. I don't plan on taking a loss on the PS3, although I do realize it is used.

Interesting, I did the opposite. I had a Wii in the beginning, but it was collecting dust. Sold it for profit, and got myself a PS3. I guess grass is always greener on the other side :)

Well, if you are serious, ill be sure to keep that in mind. Since this is still just a hypothetical situation.

Between my PS3, the games, the extra sixaxis and my ( $40 HDMI CABLE :) ) There is over a grand in this stuff.

The ebay value of a PS3 40GB is about the same as a Wii, so it's a wash from that standpoint, games excluded.

Well, I use my Wii more than my PS3. And I've bought a lot more games for my Wii than my PS3 (~15 vs 2). But my 360 gets by far the most playtime. It's not even close.

You may be right, But when I sell or trade something, I don't base it on ebay. Yea, the Wii's go for a good bit still too. But the point is, someone *may* have a Wii they don't want anymore, but cannot afford a PS3 and would easily be willing to pay $100 and a Wii for one. Just an example here.

But I do see what your saying.

Now if I were to do this deal ( still deciding ) I would want something like a Wii + 2 games for the PS3. Or a Wii + $100. Or something along those lines.

Depending on what would be included with the Wii, Then I could sweeten the deal with my games.

But like I said. IF I decide on it.

I think the reason I am deciding this is. Well, When I play on the PS3...My wife and kid's just sit there and watch because the games are just too complicated and they just don't understand the control schemes, buttons etc:

Now I used to have a Wii. But like a dumb ass I sold it. And now I regret it.

My wife, kids and I had so much fun playing the Wii. And like I said, now they just want to sit and watch. And I for one, would much rather be playing with my family.

I also sold my Wii for a PS3. The novelty of the Wii wore off rather quickly for me.

I would say just keep the PS3 and start Wii hunting. No need to have an uneven trade. The Wii is only $250 retail, why would you want to pay more? Really, they can be found in stores, you just have to be diligent about it.

Oddly enough though when I bought mine, it was an impulse buy and just told the guy at the store I wanted one and they had them in stock. I had no clue there was such a high demand for them at the time, and this was like a year ago. Also it was in New Zealand, but you'd think there'd really be a lack of them there.

I would try and sell the PS3 as a bundle, you will probably get more $$ that way. See what you can get for it on Craigs..

Maybe you could just sell a bundle of your games, say all but DMC.. You should still have enough, or close to enough to getting the wii They aren't terribly hard to find anymore, plus you would get to keep your PS3 for future titles.

Judging only by the amount of games you bought in such a short amount of time, I would seriously think long and hard about ditching your PS3. Not to bash the wii, but it isnt in the same league as the other two systems. I think you are going to end up regretting the move.

Hmmm, that never even crossed my mind. Nice idea

Wonder if anyone would want to trade a Wii for some PS3 games ? :) But not my DMC 4 CE

Why would you sell Uncharted? That game is on my best Games ever played list.

Well, if I did sell it. It would be because Uncharted is 100 times easier to buy than a Wii or a PS3 is. And I will NEVER sell DMC4. Even saying it is wrong.

15 actual games or 5 games from Wii sports and how many ever games come with Wii play like Ebay postings? I can't even think of 15 games to own on the Wii.

How old are your children? If they are old enough, grab Rock Band and get our wifey involved too.

EDIT: PSEye has some "easy" games as well a la some DS games using motion sensing.

I know somewhat of the PSEye, but not a whole lot. What all does it do ?

Wii Play
Super Swing Golf (BLECH!)
Tiger Woods
Zelda
Super Mario Galaxy
Call of Duty 3
Rayman
Rayman 2
Trauma Center
Fire Emblem
Mario Super Strikers
Mario & Sonic at the Olympics

I think there are a couple more, but I loaned them to a friend.

I still have both my Wii and PS3.. had the PS3 first and scored a Wii when I could both afford it and one happened to be available when I walked into Target. It was a monumental purchase and felt so right... but I rarely play the thing anymore. Only if I have others that visit and have never played it and always wanted to, then we break out Wii Sports. I loaded up Zelda for the first time since summer a couple weeks ago, and still haven't played it again. The problem with Zelda, is it's always been a game you need to dedicate a lot of time into, especially if your in a temple, or else you're just gonna get yourself lost eventually as you forget what you've done.

The PS3 I play at least a few times a week, and have a couple games I switch between. I use the PS3 a lot for BD playback as well, and every now and then for upscaled DVDs. My roommate also uses it for upscaling.
every now and then I use it for music too, and I make often grab new trailers from PSN. It's a purchase, that even at the full retail of $600 when it launched (60gb), I still feel happy about now that the price is down. I've enjoyed it for the time I owned it prior to the price drops. It was definitely a worthwhile investment.

If you have other people that will enjoy the Wii, it too is a worthy investment. I won't sell mine, because I still enjoy it from time to time but it's rarely something I'll put a lot of time into myself. At least, it doesn't seem that way anymore. Nintendo systems have definitely always felt like a multiplayer console, one where it's definitely more enjoyed with others. At least, for the games I am interested in throughout Nintendo's history. Sure, I enjoy playing the assorted Mario and Zelda games, but I draw myself towards all the multiplayer competitive games. Mario Kart and Mario Party are some of my favorites. The mini-game style games that have amassed on the Wii are also very enjoyable to waste some time, but like I've said.. I haven't played it in awhile. I played it a lot in the summer when I was constantly reminded of the system.. I'd play it with friends, and then when they were gone, play Zelda. But it took until Christmas when my brother in law wanted to play it before it was turned on again. And since Christmas, I've played it one night, and that was Zelda for about 20 minutes. It was a bad time to play Zelda as I didn't have the time to invest to rediscover my goals in the game. Although, I did make a little progress and am relatively close to the boss in the temple I'm in, although I'm stuck on what is essentially a little puzzle. Need to devote some time, as it's definitely the most enjoyable Zelda game I've played. Great story and really fun play.

Your play style and preference to playing with others is probably going to determine your system purchase.

Check FS/FT, but I would think you could get $35-40+ for all your games except maybe madden and MUA..

Even if you sold all of them for $30ea ( minus DMC of course ) thats $300.
