Hypothetical game: Say you got 20K and you got to rebuild a car of your dreams - what would it be and what will it have.

Only rule:

Its got to be road legal and be able to pass smog for CA.

You can make it as bling bling as you want. But you stay within limits of your budget. Remember this is your car.. your dream car. The car you get to pickup the ladies with.. Cost of the car is included in the price. So supposed your looking at a Honda Civic Si and you get a damn good price.. subtract it from your 20K and the rest is what you got to spend to make it your car.

you can make it practical, you can make it the kind that goes light to light or you can just go plain crazy and make it a 10s car. However rule. its got to be able to pass smog and be road legal (meaning its got to have working headlights, taillights, airbags (if the car came with them originally) and seat belts (if it came with it originally).

Edit:

On second thoughts.. just pick a car... maybe the car you drive.. lets see how creative you can be to make it bling bling.. or whatever..

How will we know if it actually passes a smog test if it's a made up car....?

And you mentioned Honda in a dream car thread. I hate your thread.

Sorry, I know it's hard to come up with original topics, but this one isn't that great.

I'd start with a 1985 toyota van, the ones with the sloped front. I'd recondition everything like new. Then put in a custom leather interior - black. I'd have all the seats ripped out the back. In the back I'd put a thumping sound system. On the outside I'd have it painted lime green. I'd then get it lowered with some tricked rims and low profile tires. All the windows would be tinted . . . and down both sides I'd have painted in a smooth black font, episodic

Minus the 'episodic' there was a guy here that did this. . .

okay maybe smog testing is a bit too much.. but the reason that was put in so it could be a legal car that is road worthy... i see too many riced up cars that no way in hell can pass smog.. i dont know how they do it.

65/66 Ford Mustang fastback.
I"d restomod it with a 5.0l EFI and 5 speed out of a newer stang and do the outside up GT-350 style. Disc brakes all around and all the normal suspension junk and most importanly install a/c. Not sure if I could pull that off for $20k but I could buy one thats already done or mostley done to those specs for around that.

240Z with a balanced and blueprinted L28 with not-so-stock internals and an 8,000RPM redline.

I think I will take a Delorean and rebuild it. While I cant afford a Gull wing mercedes, the DeLorean should do the trick.
Upgraded motor, not that standard 120-150hp plant. Upgraded electronics, take out teh bench seats with something a bit more sporty with side lumbar support. The dash probably will be redone.. never really liked the stock delorean dash.. too plastic looking. I dont mind digital dials, but atleast some tasty ones at it. A killer sound system with a built in dvd nav/tv/and a gaming box. A computer that will respond to voice commands sitting somehwere in the car. Upgraded suspension and bigger wheels. Ideally the engine should push about 300Hp.

I'd do a '67 Sunbeam Tiger, bring the engine up to hi - po specs, bal. & b.p., 6 speed tranny w/a 9" nodular, 390 posi rear. 4 wheel disc. Gray primer w/a clear coat (no budget for paint). No sound sysem except for Boss 302 type mufflers. Shortened windshield. Toneau cover only. Roll bar.Scrouge some extra money for 16" mag. wheels and fat tires.

I'd just buy an already restored 1971 Porsche 914/6. Those were fun little buggers. :)

Uh, the stock DeLorean had analog guages and bucket seats. I don't know where you're getting this weird idea that it had a bench seat and digital instruments.

Bucket seats and analog guages.

Probably put a 993 motor and an updated interior in the 911SC I'm picking up in a week. I'd even have some left over for track events.

2500lb car and 300+ HP = :thumbsup::D

Gosh, I could come up with SO MANY cars that would fit the criteria and give me a permanent chubby. For the purposes of this thread, I am going to go with a Factory Five Racing Shely Cobra Kit Car. Final cost will be less than $20,000 and will have the following numbers:

Horsepower (302 V8 Mustang Engine)
240 bhp

0-60 mph
4.7 sec

¼ mile
13.2 sec @ 104 mph

70-0 mph braking
175 feet

Lateral G?s
.92 G

edit: any left over money would go towards the engine and if possible, a 350HP crate engine would be dropped in - at which point this vehicle suddenly goes from bad ass to ludicrous.

Rebuild= salvage?

If so, many salvaged newer cars can be rebuilt for approx 20k,
