hypertransport, why < 1Ghz?

Just wondering why it's so important to keep hypertransport around 1Ghz? I followed Zebo's guide but got sloppy at one point and forgot to watch my multipliers, ended up at 1300mhz! The next step up pushed me over and from there the OS corrupted.

At the moment I'm running a Venice 3000+ at 2696 (337*8) ram at 2:3 (225mhz) 2.5-4-3-7

AMD doesn't use a FSB...they distribute data using multiple HT links. Because of this, overclocking those links also overclocks all of their connections and devices, hence corrupting the data.
