I just got a laptop...Fujitsu N5010 with the most gorgeous screen..16 in..it has a P3.0 800mhz HT cpu...I have HT enabled in the BIOS..I primarily use the laptop for dictation uses....

any advice would be great

Only bad thing about the lappy is it gets warm...maybe even hot

Is the dictation a voice recognition software???

All sorts of apps benefit from in in single app mode but mostly things will benefit more in a multitask mode....

Yes HT when being utilized my multitasking of many cpu intensive apps or one multithreaded or HT capable app should generation more heat as it is being fully used.

Edit: you may want to read up on anandtech's explanation of HT and you can get a better idea how when an app without hT technology may have been showing 100% cpu may have actually not running as efficiently throughout.....

That being said I can see 2-3c more under load of extreme cpu usage with HT so I don't think it is encredible by any means...I bet it will kill the battery life a tad faster as well....

I could use it with the apps I run on my laptop but maybe it wont really come into play much for you anyways...

Thanks Duvie

I am using Dragon Naturally Speaking Pro: Medical voice recognition software...so I am not sure if it takes advatage of HT...I do need to read more on HT....

But my time is so limited with new work demands...training the software takes quite a bit of time..but I can save about $30000/yr of transcription costs

I will try to look it for you then but generally I hear the voice recognition stuff is pretty cpu intensive and I think in my list I put together of HT enabled apps their was one voice recognition software there....If the item isn't very cpu intensive then HT wouldn't really have much advantage in a single app setting..multitasking could always be key for you professionals....

I will let you know what I find out about it...
