Where do I start...

Hey everyone, new to the forums here, was advised to come here and ask for help cuz i'm lost and noone i know can help me =P. I have a Intel 2.8, gig of ram, GeForceFX5600 that was set for hypertheading, but due to other issues and past mistakes I accidently restored default bios settings, turning off hyperthreading and making my comp run at 1.4.

Now, I was told to just go into BIOS, enable it again, and crank the CPU freq to 200, so i enabled it, tried to overclock to 132 (as high as it would go) and restarted. "No signal input". This happened before, and I had just removed the BIOS battery, then put it back in to clear it, so i did that again, no luck.

So here's the thing, I can't remember what I did to get it up and running again =P. I think it just sat until it realized it was being stupid and decided to start working... Haven't seen a problem like this anywhere online, so any help would be appreciated. My mobo is a PC Chips 1.3b i believe, had it bookmarked on the comp that isn't working =s.

Thnx!

Can you pin down exactly what model of motherboard it is, that's going to help :) It should have its model silk-screened on the surface somewhere.

OK, up and running again. Got some help from a friend who was very mad at me for playing in BIOS =P. Swapped a jumper to bridge the other two pins, then went back...

Back to the origional problem tho - running on 1.4ghz when i have a 2.8ghz. Any ideas? Format?

Your CPUs speed is a hardware problem, so reformatting software isn't going to help you a bit. Go into the BIOS, find out what the native/normal settings are for your CPU, and set those.

Dont overclock till you have the system running stable.
Dont oc if you are not willing to burn out parts of your sys.
Do more research into this, as, when you do oc, more heat dissipation is required from your cpu, and possible other parts of your system depending on the method.

Good luck

it is on default settings, but it's running my 2.8 at 1.4. It recignizes is as 2.8, and USED to run at 2.8, then i hyperthreaded it so it ran as the two 1.4's. With that off now (default settiungs) my comp sees it as one 1.4.

I wasn't overclocking to speed it up, I was overclocking to try to meet where it should be running as 2.8. It makes no sence how it could just drop half my processor speed.

I downloaded the manual but it's in .DOC format. Closest I've got to opening it was in WordPad, and it made hash out of it. But basically, read your manual and look for a way to set your CPU bus speed to what the CPU is made for. It sounds like yours uses a 200MHz bus speed (quad-pumped for 800MHz effective bus speed), but is using 100MHz right now, so dive in there and see if you see where to change that.

The power supply may not be able to power your CPU at full speed, I do see that sometimes. What brand and model is the power supply?

Um, Hyperthreading won't affect CPU clock speed....

OK, will do, thnx for the help, just gotta sit down and read...

The power supply was thought of as an issue before, so i swapped it with a nice one, hard to reach the computer, but i know it's not something to worry abot, more then enough wattage.

It was a quality brand of unit then? Because there's all sorts of trashy ones on the market that sound like they've got enough wattage ;) If it was, say, Antec, Enermax, Sparkle Power, Enlight, Heroichi, Delta...?
