Hyperterming to UNIX serial port

Hey guys,
I am trying to hyperterm to my Unix serial port and am unable to. I have a DB-9 female to DB-9 femail serial cable. I have the PC serial port connected to the Unix one. I then have Hyperterminal set to 9600 8N1 and its set to COM1 because that is the only com port listed in the pulldown menu.

I am unable to get any kind of visual notice that its connected. Am I doing something wrong here? Thanks.

Do you have 2 serial ports on your windows computer? You can check if thats the correct cable by connecting the 2 ports together and having 2 terminal windows open with the same settings. Type in a character in one window and see if it comes out the other. If that doesn't work you may have to cross the RX/TX pins ( so that Transmit goes to Receive and Receive goes to Transmit ).

hmm, no there is only 1 comm port on there and i used a multimeter on the cable and verified that pin 2 was connected to pin 3.
