it was pretty impressive!!

The only non hybrids I know that be hypermiled that high are the older Honda CRX / hatchbacks (econo lean burn models), or a Geo Metro.

If I shift at 2K rpm and skip using half of my gears, I can go from about 13-15MPG to 17-18MPG in the city. To beat 22MPG on the highway, I'd need to drive slower than 70.

I wouldn't inflate the tires to their max, your tires will wear irregularly, make your ride quality worse, and you will have a higher risk of damaging something from potholes, curbs, debris, etc..
Who says nominal max is overinflation?

sidewall max is max possible. actual max for each car is different. for most cars tirewall max is definitely over inflation.
and its not worth the safety loss... basiaclly you bulge the middle out and lower your grip area.

Yup, for most cars(at least all cars i've worked on), the sidewall max is way over the cars specification for tire pressure.

I'm sure they're exceptions on heavy duty dump trucks and other vehicles but I was speaking generally.

:music: Slowww riiiiide.... :music:

I try a few. I typically drive slower and do more planning so as to minimize brake useage. Keeping my vehicle in tune helps a lot, but there is only so much you can do for an old caprice.

My best on my G5 GT is 44mpg over a 50km trip on side roads. At one point I peaked at 48mpg, but getting on to the freeway kills the mileage. My car drops from 45-50mpg @ 50mph to 32-36mpg @ 70mph

Average is 26mpg city and 33 highway
