hypercube...possible?

For anyone who has watched the movie "Cube 2: Hypercube."...is that possible at all? A cube in 4 dimentions, but the 4th dimention isnt time, or at least does not have to be. Any theories on it at all, or was it all made up BS?

Not really. Even if string theory is right and there are 10 or 26 dimensions, they're "curled up" in such a small space that all we can ever experience are the usual 3 spacial and 1 time.

It works mathematically... A senior thesis I did was exploring hypershapes by looking at their intersections with 3-space as the hypershapes were rotated and translated. Cool pictures resulted. AFAIK, there are no practical applications to the "real" world. I wish I still had the pics... they were saved on floppy disks so I would never lose them due to hard drive failure... instead, the floppies failed.

Anyway, if you're obsessed with n-dimensional geometry, some good resources are:
"Beyond the Third Dimension" by Thomas Banchoff (his work inspired my senior thesis)
see his website: His website
Fun reading (which helps get your mind in the right groove to think about n-dimensional geometry - I can't tell you how many headaches I got thinking about the stuff - "Flatland" by Abbott
"Flaterland, Like Flatland But Only More So" by Stewart

there is a story about a house built like a hypercube (tesseract). I forgot what it was called, but it was on the scifi channel's website, and quite an interesting read. basically, the builder built an unfolded tesseract (theres an image here), and then an earthquake made it spring back into a hypercube. aside from the glaring impossibilities, its nice.

That movie sucked ass. The first one was waaaayyy better.

Might be possible, we can't really say though. As of now, no. There's quite a few good sites on the internet about it. I found a java applet that has a rotating hypercube on it. It's kinda funky cause they have to project it down to a 2-D model for your screen, but they have a stereoscopic view (either red/blue glasses or cross your eyes) and it looks pretty cool.

"And He Built A Crooked House" is the name of the story about the house in the shape of a hypercube. "Flatterland" is also a pretty good intro to this stuff, although you should read "Flatland" first. :)

I actually know Thomas Banchoff. Took his class on 4-dimensional mathematics. Very cool guy.

I read that story as a child and found it very boring! I guess I was too unsophisticated, or too open minded, to find the idea very interesting.
