Hyperbole on the news

So the local news station reported that the 2011 Rugby World Cup is expected to attract 3.4 billion viewers. Think maybe that's a little exaggerated?

Billion? Whats the world population again? 6 billion or so? Since probably over half of those people still don't have running water I'm also going to have to doubt that statistic.

3.4 billion people, if you count the right way.

See, you look at one young male - he's one person, right? well think about all the little babies he could have - now you can count that 1 guy as 1 million. problem solved.

They're probably counting independent events in the cup... i.e. if Bob watches 4 games on 4 separate days, that counts as 4 views. I don't blame the journalists writing that story... most are pretty stupid and probably just didn't understand the data given to them.
