Hyper-V slows down 3d performance

I've noticed whenever I install hyper-v, it destroys all of my box's 3d performance. I play around with a linux vm in it, but I also use this machine for games too.

This Vista Multimedia Scheduler Configuration Tool has helped to a degree, but I'm not sure I have a good grasp of how the prioritization works.

Can anyone offer me a suggestion?

Edit: I'm not referring to the guest OS

2008 Server isn't a desktop OS. HyperV is not optimized for 3d game support.

I realize that, but I can't believe I'm the only person in the universe that cares about this. I've seen microsoft reps run windows 2000 advanced server on their laptops at technet conferences--should that mean they don't dare have any HD video embedded in a presentation they run off that machine?

Discussion of video issues if Hyper-V is installed on host.

It seems like it's a known issue and continues even if the Hyper-V services are turned off or there are no active Guests running. For now, it looks like, if you need good host video performance, either dual-boot to a separate Hyper-V Server partition (or drive) or use Virtual Server or VMWare for Guest OSes.

From that post it looks to be an nVidia issue...

"The ATI card came in today, and as expected: Without the nVidia drivers, Hyper-V runs smooth as a hot knife through butter 😛"

The new 180.42's are out now, I'll check that out too. Apparently xp x64 drivers can help but that can't be a very good idea...

Some of the posts include mention of problems with ATI and Intel graphics chips, too.

Regardless, it looks like 3D and graphics performance isn't one of the test criteria for Server 2008 with Hyper-V. Surprise.
