Hyper Threading Unlock question

Been trying to unlock the Hyper Threading options on my Asus P4PE - the only discussion I have found on this is BIOS Patcher v4.00.rc.7.1 Has anyone had any success unlocking HT? I was under the impression that my P4 2.53Ghz supports HT, but it's just locked out by Asus and Award to force you to upgrade to the 3 gigger. TIA
 
I believe that all of the Northwood processors have the ability for hyperthreading, however, intel has internally shut off (or did not enable) the HT functions on any Northwood slower than 3.06 Ghz. And, I think that all Northwood based Xeon processors have hyperthreading ability no matter what the clock speed. So I dont think that your motherboard is to blame for it. Im sure if your Mobo supports hyperthreading, it would only work with a 3Ghz or better P4 CPU. Anyone disagree?

I also concur, but am curious about the idea of unlocking HT. I've heard mention of it before, but no one seems to be sure if it is possible/advisable.

Anybody have any info on the subject?
 
Its been done before. On the VR-zone forums, one guy apparently unlocked his CPU by accident, but he cannot replicate what he did, since it was an accident. I don't know how much truth there is to that, but anyway P4s are already pretty fast w/o HT.
 
I personally think that guy was delusional when he thought he activated the HT but I did hear it was an ES so it's possible I suppose. Anyways, it'd be great if it does turn out it's microcode thing and they hack it to work but I'm not holdin' me breath 😉
 
To follow up a bit - I am under the impression that it's not a matter of unlocking the CPU - but unlocking the BIOS in your HT compatible motherboard. As I understand it, the HT is enabled on the CPU, but the motherboard mfg's are bound by contract that if the mobo does not detect a 3.06Ghz or higher, it wont enable the HT option.
