Based on my understanding, Windows XP Pro has a limit of 2 CPUs, however based on my reading, if you have 2 Hyper Threading processors in a system it would look like 4 CPUs.

So my question is - what happens? Does windows know the difference between physical and logical CPUs?

All experiance on this welcome!

Multiple processors have no speed improvement during Windows setup. I've tested it both with WinXP Pro and W2K and setup times were identical.

Windows XP is aware of the difference between a real CPU and a hyperthreaded logical one. It will count a Prestonia XEON as two separate processors and counts it for the licences.

Windows 2000 is not quite so smart, and simply sees two logical CPUs. It will count the real CPU only once for its licence.

Oops, I may have misread the original post. I was assuming that you were questioning the speed difference during setup.
