Hyper T4 retention clip

Is it me, or is the retention clip for the hyper t4 too long for LGA 1150? It needs to be shortened but it wont fit.

I'm worried that I'm going to get thermal paste everywhere. Can you clean that with alcohol pads?

I only managed to find one Tom's hardware thread about it, but it wasn't useful. Does cooler master even have a phone number?

Watched the video. Talking to tech support via chat.

I can't get the clip to stay on both sides. When I lock it down it pops off whichever side has more length.

Tech says it seems line a faulty clip. I know I'm somewhat inexperienced in the realm of custom cooling, but jesus, I can't be this much of a moron. Video seems straight forward enough.

I've enlisted another set of hands to help, but to no avail. Still pops off.

It's been sliding around enough from repeated attempts that I've had to wioe some paste off the sides of the cpu. Am I in danger of frying things when I power on (if I just say "screw it" and use the stock cooler)?

Thanks for the replies. Looks like I'll be going stock until replacement parts make their way to me.

Use some rubbing alcohol to be doubly sure.

Done and done. Everything seems to be in working order.

While I feel as though I wasn't screwing up too badly, I also feel that the product replacement will likely be the same BS with the clip. I'm going to pass on the T4. I'd go with a hyper 212 evo, but I think my Phantom 240 is too small.

Any other cooling suggestions?

The Freezer 7 Pro is in roughly the same size and performance class as the T4, but screws down instead of using clips.
