Hynix RAM chips

For what they're rated for yea sure.

Although the ram chips on my Radeon 9800 which is rated for 330 MHz operation won't go past 320 without displaying graphical errors but then again a Radeon 9800's default memory clock speed is 290 MHz.

No, Hynix chips definitely aren't good chips. They are some of the cheapest ram chips available, and they neither overclock well, nor run low latencies. That's the PC4000/PC4200 ram that won't run tight timings even below 200mhz. Send it back, before the RMA period expires.

Seems we have two different opinions here.

I haven't seen it around too much, which may be a bad thing.

You have yet to look at the new hynix chips on the Kingston. Take a look at Hot deals and read some of the reviews from people that bought it. 220Mhz to 230Mhz is ALOT for valueram.

That's not official standard. Don't complain.
And who make the module? The quality of the PCB and the production affect the outcome.

Even Kingston choose to use Hynix, they must be good quality chips.

Old name is Hyundai, which is as good as Samsung.

I have samsung chips that out-do any other brand name chips in my collection. Hynix on the other hand are main-stream non-o/c "do what they say" chips.

I'm not looking to OC. My days of that are over. I just want to make sure that the RAM is reliable. Especially since I plan on using this in a Dual Channel mode (waiting for MB to come in). The pair is matched 256MB PC3200 from Kingston w/the Hynix chips.

Thanks for the comments everyone!

Hynix are fine, especially if you are not planning on overclocking. You people putting them down are ridiculous, I mean they do exactly what they say they do. You act like they should be expected to overclock well, and if they do not then they are garbage. Yea, sure, some chips do a lot more than what they are rated for, but who cares if you do not plan to overclock. Jeez

I have hynix chips on my generic PC3200 ram and I can confirm that it doesn't overclock well at all. The best I can do is 200mhz at CAS2.5x4x4x11. Not terrible but not great either. I would love to run at 2-2-2-11 (nforce2 loves that 11 figure for some reason).

Yes, HYNIX, along with Samsung and Crucial are among the top RAM producers, I've had 2 cards with HYNIX, and 1 with Samsung, all were fantastic.
