OK I have a long drawn out story about my three reference r9 290's. BUT ILL KEEP IT SHORT!!! I have three reference r9 290's and im thinking about upgrading to Three 290x tri-x simply because i have 2 hynix and 1 elpidia and Im experiencing a lot of issues. ive tried everything and i just want a stable gpu setup. Ive spent more on the water cooling setup for them than the cards themselves. so i think im justified in buying 3 brand new R9 290x's

http://www.amazon.com/Sapphire-Versi..._cd_al_qh_dp_i

I need to know if anyone knows if these cards have hynix memory guaranteed or elpidia. Ive heard that they have hynix guaranteed because of the "****-00-**" in the item #. I know it might be a waste of money and i dont care. i dont really need opinions about that. I just need to know about the memory of these cards.

If anyone knows about 290x's that come guaranteed with hynix memory be it the sapphire tri-x or not. Let me know please... Thank you

What kind of issues do you have?

I have 4 cards in QuadFire. 3 Elpida and 1 hynix and never had any issues with them.

(Please tell us ALL your hardware and overclocks. Including monitors)

well to be honest i bought a fourth card about a month ago. (told you it was a long drawn-out story) to try and eliminate the elpidia card. I thought my third card was the culprit because it had different #s on the back sticker(not c671) and a lighter colored circuit board. also, it had no "x-bracket" just screws with springs. Anyways i ended up buying a 4th card because i couldnt get the three of them to work properly together. (ie.: everytime i tried to enable crossfire in ccc the screen flashed and it just went back to the "disabled" option. So i ordered a 4th card and took out the oddball. So keep in mind that i THOUGHT i just eliminated the problem. My cards at this point all appear to be matching. ( all had the c671 sticker.. i thought that mattered at the time) So i start it up and go to gpu-z.. It said that one of my cards was still an elpidia.. im just dumb founded at this point. so i take out all the cards one by one and test them.

It turns out that one of my original 2 cards was an elpidia card. Well, it was running perfectly fine in 2-way crossfire. So i monkey around with it for a few days trying all kinds of combos. (different order/different combinations) I could not get the cards to 3 way crossfire with the elpidia card no matter what i did. i re-installed drivers and even rolled back drivers. Also tried betas. I tried completely uninstalling then reinstalling ccc. Could NOT get them to work. Oh yeah i have an asus crosshair V, formulaZ mobo. Which is only capable of 3-way crossfire.

So in conclusion, i ended up being forced to put the "oddball" back in because it worked that way with all three hynix cards. When all this happened i had already ordered my Koolance water cooling system. so i wanted to be absolutely sure it worked.

Now its been a few months and i have the oddball in the middle of the 3-way. water cooled. Well. the v-ram. I think that is what it's called. [(the long row of capacitors that goes all the way across the card that's flanked by tiny square ram chips) not the big square ones] The v-ram is way hotter on the oddball card because the ram chips are smaller and i need to put thicker padding in there i think. So yeah that was kind of long winded, but what i rerally want is all brand new stable cards that match. Ive also had all kinds of game issues with anything from graphics problems to black screens to crashing. idk if thats normal, and ive managed to fix most of them, but it kind of pisses me off.

Sorry but your problem is not about the type of Ram.

  • Can you please enumerate your full system. POWER SUPPLY???? (This part is really important)
  • Do you have a picture of your system?
  • What are your temperatures?

Have you tried installing the cards and then formating and installing brand new Windows?

Both 290 Tri X which I got on ebay had Hynix. Idk if I got lucky or if they all have it. I also am curious as to the answer.

I don't know the answer to your question, and this isn't what you asked. But, you are gaming at 1080P, right? I'd pick two of the cards you have and keep them, CF R9 290X's will chew up 1080P. Going with more cards probably will be more headache than it is worth considering that two R9 290X's should already provide very fluid gameplay at that resolution. You are also using an FX 9590, a plenty capable CPU, but probably not enough CPU in games to really do much with three or four R9 290X's vs. two in any meaningful way.

+1. Tossing more $$ into more cards is not the answer here.

I very, very much doubt the type of VRAM used is the source of your issues here

wait a minute... 3-way crossfire Hawaii for a 1080 screen? I'm not sure where you are getting advice from but surely it isn't from anybody here. Seems like with a complex system like yours and a bit of misinformation is likely your problem. I would try to dumbify your system a bit a see if problems start to go away. You have miles of over kill in that rig, shed some weight.

If it makes you feel a little better, I ran Sli Titan Z's for about a week and ultimately decided that the second card was mostly moot even on my 3440x14400 screen. I found myself forcing absurd levels of AA just to push the cards and justify the need.

This is the first time I mention it here cause I was kind of embarrassed to admit that
I got 2 Z's lol.
