Ok, this is bugging me. The first time this happened was durring a Scan Disk using Win98. The program ran it's course. The dialog box showed no bad sectors, ect. and when I closed out the dialog box I got a Windows Explorer error mssg., and the machine locked up.
I powered off the computer, and restarted it. And of course it would'nt boot into windows, saying the Hymem System was missing and I had a heck of a time with it. I finally went through the whole fdisk/reformat to get it going.
The second time this happened, a month or so later, was durring a Disk Defragment. I had removed some games from my computer and thought I'd go a head and do this just to keep things in order. I even returned my CPU/bus to stock speeds before I performed the Disk Defrag, because of the last unexplained episode. Of course, after the Disk Defrag was finished my computer was again locked up, and the mssg again was that I'd lost my Hymem.Sys.
Any Ideas? Because it just did it again sunday night, though it would almost boot into Windows, but would lock-up with the error:Must Reload Windows, and then the computer would auto shut off.
I did however see a mssg while trying to get it going that the Hymem.Sys was missing, though the error messages and the way it acted was a bit different than the last two times.
What could cause this?
