Hydrocodone used recreationally...Addiction/Brain Damage...

A friend of mine and myself got into an argument about whether or not Hydrocodone used recreationally is dangerous.

She believes that it is extremlly addictive, but I advocate that if someone cotrolled usage that they could avoid addiction (if only used say...every weekend).

Another question remains, what are the risks of brain damage, the substance acts almost identically to morpheine, so information on that drug would be helpful too.

Pain relievers are way too addicting. I try not to touch the things anymore. I was on oxycontin when I messed up my knees, and boy was that stuff good.

Vicodin might by the most commonly abused prescription medication. Back when I was working in spine surgery, we'd have patients addicted to tthis stuff that their whole life was dedicated to getting more and mroe prescriptions.

BTW, where do you plan on getting a federally controlled substance without a prescription?

Yep. A few years ago when I had my wisdom teeth pulled I was given 500mg of Hydrcodone to take (one every four hours). The first one got me a little loopy, after that barely anything. Naturally that will vary from person to person.

It's not very hard. That's like asking where an underaged kid is going to get booze.

No, there's absolutely nothing wrong with regularly putting drugs into your body.

Every weekend? You are asking for trouble. Is hydrocodone addictive? Absolutely. Is it as addictive as oxycodone (in Percocet) or herion? No. Over time though most people will develop a tolerance to vicodin. So after a few weekends you gonna up the dose and keep upping it and you will have a serious problem. There is a good reason why you can't buy this stuff over the counter. Hydrocodone and other codeine derrvities are metabolized in your liver and converted into morphine. You pop the pill, you make morphine.

As for tylenol dont drink booze and pop tylenol. It can very destructive to your liver is you drink often, and in quantity.

It's different from person to person, but I'd always be careful, because it seems more often than not, addiction problems kick in.

I guess I'm lucky and never had the issue with pain meds. I've been given demerol before and I was fine after, but not everyone can say the same.

I'd say it depends on the person and the frequency of use. As far as I know most people can get through 2 bottles of vicodin (like when you get your wisdom teeth pulled) without getting addicted.

Who needs two bottles of vicodin for wisdom teeth?

The addiction is not as big a problem as the habituation. You build up such a tolerance that not only is there no high anymore, but you have to constantly medicate just to feel normal. Plus it eats your liver.
Additionally, you say *now* that you will do it, e.g. once a week on the weekend. Shortly, you decide Sat and Sunday, and then it will be okay to perk up at lunch one lousy monday, just this one time, and it kinda goes downhill from there.
I'll be the first to admit it's happiness in a pill that no therapy or antidepressant can even touch ... but if you have access, you will use and abuse it, and it really is not worth the problems. If you can barely muster the discipline to not take it at all, how the hell do you think you will manage to restrain your dosing?
Stick to the reefer.

Dude, don't abuse pain killers. Your brain will stop making endorphins (natural feel-good and pain killing chemical), and you will need more and more of it, or feel extreme pain when anything happens or feel bad when not taking it. Kick the habit, dude.

500mg of Hydrocodone would have killed you. The 500mg symbolized the amount of acetaminophen.

Not only that but your liver will start to release an enzime to deal with the opiats.

I had to eat hydrocodone for a month during my kidney stone, and it screwed up my liver. Took another month to get it back to normal.
