hybrid crossfire with 5770 and gigabyte ga-890gpa-ud3h

So I just purchased a gigabyte ga-890gpa-ud3h and I want to try the hybrid crossfire function it supports with my existing 5770 until I purchase another 5770 to do true x-fire. Question is, I followed the instructions that came with the mobo exactly and in ccc xfire doesn't show up as an option. Is there anything I'm missing? I'm assuming this card supports it. I don't even know if it will be a big difference but I want to mess around with it anyway. Here's my relevant specs in case they're needed:

AMD Phenom XII 965
Radeon 5770 1GB
Gigabyte GA-890GPA-UD3H
OCZ 4GB OCZ3G1333LV2G

Everything is stock except the gfx card which I've done some CCC Overdrive overclocking. Thanks in advance.

Phil

edit So I've been made aware that X-Fire wouldn't really amount to much with my gfx card so I'm just gonna not worry about it and wait until I can get another 5770 in and go that route. Thanks anyway! A mod can lock this thread if they want.

I don't think it works anyway because the architecture of the IGP in the 890GX chipset is based on the Radeon HD4000 series while the HD5770 is based on the newer one.

You are right. It doesn't work. Only 5450 is hybrid CrossfireX capable. Anyway, 5770 blows that config away without a doubt.

I thought crossfire only worked as fast as the slowest card, why would you want to cripple your 5770 that way? A single 5770 should be faster anyways.

Old thread, I know, but I'm having trouble finding info on the hybrid CrossFireX.

I'm getting a MB with the 880G chipset, including an iGPU HD 4250, for my daughter who isn't a gamer. The box will run an Athlon II X4. It looks like the HD 5450 is supported by hybrid X-Fire, but I can't really find much info about it, and there is nothing official. Is it worth it to mess around with this, or is it just an advertising gimmick?

For a non gaming machine running W7 X 64bit, and two HD 1080p monitors, should I:

1. Forget about CrossFireX, and buy a 1Gb HD 5770 for $155

2. Forget about CrossFireX, and buy a passive cooled 1Gb HD 5450 for $60

3. Use both the integrated 4250 and the 5450 in X-Fire mode

4. Forget about buying a GPU, and just let her run off the iGPU (will it support dual monitors?)

My friend with an AMD mb had the same issue. I think hybrid crossfire is only for pairing an IGP with another slow card (e.g. a 2400, 3450, 5450, etc depending on generation) to get a faster, but still slow result. It probably makes more sense to buy a dedicated card that supports dual display for $50-100.

I'm not sure about the IGP and dual display, but if it has multiple outputs (VGA/DVI/HDMI) you may as well try first. The onboard 4290 is apparently pretty good (my friend lived with it playing SC2 until the 5770 went on sale)
