Hybrid config SSD & HDD question

Ok. So I had a OCZ Vertex LE 100G running fine since around April 15th with FW 1.10 I used a 1Tb drive for placing my games on, and the SSD for the OS install.

A few weeks ago I decided to defrag the HDD (win7 64b) Not long after that I upgraded to FW 1.11 then it died.

My question is could the defragging of the HDD of caused some type of problem with the communication of the file placements on the HDD er something like that, causing it to die?

At any rate OCZ is replacing the EOL 100G Vertex LE with "OCZSSD2-2VTX100G" - is this any good in comparison?

The replacement you're getting is a 100GB Vertex 2. At least as good in comparison, and they haven't been dying like the LEs have been.

Defragging an HDD with an SSD connected elsewhere wouldn't have done jack squat.
