I came to me today, gas-electric hybrids are causing gas prices to rise...

why, if you were an oil tycoon, and you heard about this new car that allows you to get 50-60 miles per gallon, wouldn't you raise the price as well?

I would.

Don't laugh at the conpsiracy my neighbor bought an all electric car and Ford won't renew his lease. They want to destroy the thing. This despite the fact that the neighbor just loves the car. He just charges the thing up every night and skips those high priced gas stations.
 
Right, I'm sure it has nothing to do with oil company execs and Arabs just being a bunch greedy bastards.

Which is ironic actually because the whole "problem" the Arabs have with the west is their perception that we are greedy.

i think you'd find that gas consumption is at an all-time high (though i could be wrong about that). a few priuses are not going to make up for the millions of full size trucks and SUVs that are sold each year.

besides, less demand != higher prices.

ford's electric was kind of an escort thing. it had a van-style rear-end and it was mind-boggingly slow. maybe they made another one after that though, i dunno.

That's not terribly unusual; the leases were intentional, so that Ford could run a test program. It was a flop, so they want to pull the cars so that they won't have to do maintainence on them as the few cars that exist get worn out.

Actually GM did the same thing with all the EV1's they leased out. I forget the reasoning, however.

well, it's not like they're raising the price by double...they're smart, they know that there aren't that many hybrids out there yet, so they raise the price gradually until it costs $5 a gallon 😛

Using your logic... why didn't they just hike the price before hybrids came out? Therefore you'd have 100% of the audience generating more profits, not just 98.9% of non-hybrid owners.

It's actually a Ford Ranger truck, top speed is 75 mph and it can go about 100 miles on a full charge.
