hw video encoding

I'm thinking of getting a new gfx card for my pc, in the $100 - 170 range, and I also do a lot of divx encoding, so here's my question: if I get an AIW card, will that speed up divx and/or mpeg encoding, or it doesnt matter? Also, what about decoding, does that make a difference?

I do not believe any of the ATI "All-In-Wonder" cards do hardware MPEG2 capture. There is nothing currently out there (at the consumer level) that does hardware DIVX/MPEG4 capture. There is nothing currently out there (at the consumer level) to do hardware re-encoding of existing files into other formats; real-time encoders take an external input and turn it into an MPEG2 file, not take a .vob rip and turn it into MPEG4/DIVX.

All ATI video cards (at least everything since the R7000 or so) have MPEG2 decode acceleration, if the application supports it (most players, at least with the right codecs, do these days). I believe the last few generations of NVIDIA cards have this as well. The GeForce6 line (at least the 6200/6600, and the PCI Express cards) are supposed to have more extensive decoding capabilities, allowing (in theory) hardware assist for MPEG2, WMV9, and possibly MPEG4. They are also supposed to be able to do at least MPEG2 and WMV9 encoding, but no supporting apps have been released yet.

The WinPVR 150 is hardware I believe (I have the 250). It's a seperate PCI card.
