HVD discs are expected to hold from 100 GB to one 1,000 GB (one terabyte) of data, with an insane data transfer rate of 1 GBit/s. Optware, which is leading the development effort, doesn't use a single laser beam to read data. Instead, it splits the beam into 1 million narrower beams to read whole pages of data at once.

Ah so it's the holographic crystal storage they were talking about in science articles I've read.

Geesh at this config they can even blow away HDDs. Eventually they might replace mechanical HDDs.
Storage crystals (without solution) in your PC anyone?

The problem though is the hefty price tag $3000 that might come down to affordable levels not less than 10 years.
