Back story. His company is paying for this and will be paying the insurance and gas as well, but he chose the exact vehicle. The objective was a late model pickup around $15,000.

What he said he wanted:
power locks and windows, extended or crew cab, cruise, AC, CD, at least a 6 cylinder.

What he bought:
2005 DODGE DAKOTA CLUB CAB V8 AUTO
CD Player Passenger Airbag Driver Airbag Anti-Lock Brakes
Cruise Control Air Conditioning Wood Dash Trim Heated Seats Bed Liner Power Windows Power Locks (I don't know if there's more as he is currently driving it from Orlando to Tallahassee and I've not seen it yet.)

one owner, 15,000 mi

$14,500

Decent deal? Decent truck? I looked up Kelley prices and retail is around $21,000, private sale $18,000, trade-in $16,500. (using what information I have.)

Why is it so cheap...

That's my question.
Otherwise, looks good.
Remember, if there's any problems with it, you're sure to find out.

Now is a GREAT time to buy a new truck or SUV if you don't mind paying for the gas. People are unloading them left and right for more fuel efficent cars.

My buddy as an 05 Dakota, it's a decent truck. I've driven it a couple times and the visibility is a little weird with those giant rear headrests and the extended cab, but I'm used to driving a Blazer so I'd probably get used to it.

Thank goodness it still has lots of warranty.

From what he told me, the guy selling it was in kind of the same position. His company was getting him a car or truck and so he had to sell his. That reminds me, anyone want a 2000 Taurus? Now I have to sell that.

Sounds like a good deal to me. Though since hes not paying for any of the costs involved in the purchase or operation of the vehicle, all that matters is he likes it.

Though I've seen dealerships dumping brand new trucks for nearly that price. Not sure if they are totally comperable to that truck though.

That's what I thought. Every time we checked those, though, they were 4 cylinder or no power stuff or regular cab, etc. . Like everybody else, he wanted more, more, more for the money. 🙂 We've owned everything from a Plymouth Horizon hatchback to a 12 cylinder Jag, but never a pickup.

Yea, many of the trucks the dealers were selling for under 20K were at best a smaller size with a V6.

Though for a time there GM was selling full size trucks for under 20K, V8 and all that jazz.

Never head of the "Dakato". Though I get your pointless point.
During thoes GM truck sale times, the mid-size trucks were even cheaper. You could get a mid-sized truck for nearly the same price as a saturn! Good deal!

The V8 auto is a little weak for what it is, but it's a great truck otherwise. My brother has a 1995 and a 2006 Dakota, he love them.
