why are houses in hurricane made of wood? when i was in taiwan we'd get typhoon warnings all the time and none of our houses blew apart. of course they were also made of concrete and steel. or build underground?

surely building one concrete/steel house is cheaper than rebuilding constantly at least every 10 years

Yea, but usually the contractor doesn't think about that

and they haven't thought about that for the past several decades? it's likely they did think about it and would rather rebuild for profit instead

It depends on the area.

In areas like FL that are likely to get hit by a hurricane, there is no such thing as houses made out of wood, and even the windows are fiberglass like a car's windshield, not plain old easily shattered glass. Actually it has more to do with the everyday afternoon thunderstorms than it does hurricanes.
